[ About Gowoondang 고운당 ]

Located in the west of Gyeongbok Palace, Gowoondang guesthouse rests on an about 100 year-old Korean traditional house. Most of its elements, including rafters, girders and roof tiles are perfectly preserved in the original condition. Especially you can see the rafters on the celling showing an exocis style of Korean traditional house. The floor in each room is constructed with enviroment-friendly laminated paper which is lacqered with bean oil. The garden also boasts two over 200 year-old juniper trees, adding classical & elegant atmosphere to the whole house. There are roral of five rooms and three separate shower / bathrooms to best accommodate guest. Speak to our manager and owner, Mr. Kim, If you wish to discover hidden treasures of Seoul. He is trillingual (English, Japanese, Chinese) and can personally recommend you local restaurants in the back-streets of downtown, culture event and mountain-climbing courses in the suburbs of Seoul not listed sleswhere. Also, don't forget that we host Kinch making workshops and calleries in the garden on a regular basis. Feel free to come and try the most authentic experience while you are in Korea. 고운당은 경복궁 서편에 위치한 통의동에 약 100년전 건축된 한국 전통가옥으로 대블보, 서까래 및 기와가 온전히 잘 보존되어 있으며, 특히 각 방 천장이 서까래 원형 그대로 노출되어 있고, 방바닥도 친환경적인 전통 콩기름 장판지로 시공하였습니다. 또한 흙으로 단장된 앞마당에는 수령 200년을 훨씬 넘긴 향나무 두 그루가 이 집의 고풍스러움을 더해주고 있습니다. 총 5개의 방과 3개의 샤워실, 화장실이 있고, 거실에는 대형 TV와 인터넷이 구비되어 있어 오시는 분들이 자유롭게 이용 가능합니다. 특히 조식은 한식 위주의 식단으로 제공되며 주인이 3개 국어(영어, 일본어, 중국어)를 구사할 수 있어 관광안내 책자에서는 접할 수 없는 도심 뒷골목의 맛집과 서울 근교 등산 코스 및 문화 예술 볼거리를 추천해드립니다. 또 정기적으로 김치담그기 행사 및 마당에서 미술전시회를 기획하여 여행객에게 테마가 있는 여정이 될 수 있도록 아름다운 추억거리를 제공할 것입니다.
