Description
Taebaek Traditional Korean Guesthouse is located in Sododong, Taebaek-si, Kangwon-do. Built right in front of the Taebaek Mountain , everyone has a mountain view from their room. The summits of Hambaek Mountain and the ski hills of the O2 Resort can be seen from the village.
A clear stream runs through the village adding to its bucolic charms. Many first time visitors report feeling like they are entering a small palace with its four large traditional houses and stone wall that surrounds them. It hasn't been long since the guesthouse was built.
However, the residential homes are more than 100 years old. These homes do not resemble the traditional houses of the Kangwon-do province. They are more similar to the traditional homes of the middle class at Andong city or Yeongnam districts in the southern part of South Korea. In actuality, the houses are replicas from the Kyeongju, Yeongchun, and Kyeongsan area.
The exterior of the houses were made to look like traditional Korean homes but the interior part has all been modernized. The kitchens which used to be located outside are now inside and now have rooms of their own. The bathrooms are also inside now and near the kitchen or next to the main bedrooms.
The guesthouse is a good model of how to combine a traditional exterior appearance and a modern interior for convenience. Also, each building has a minimum of one room with fire place for those cold winter nights. On the outside the walls are built with mud, the traditional building material for houses in Korea. Another traditional building material is "Hanji" the traditional Korean paper which is aesthetically pleasing and placed on the outside as well as on the inside of the homes.

When you enter the village and walk straight ahead you’ll find the "Anchae" (women's quarters in the old days), go to your left and it’s the "Sarangchae" (men's quarters in the old days) and at your right there’s the "Hangrangchae" (servants' quarters in the old days). Behind the 'Anchae', there is another room called "Dwianchae" (annex). Next to that room, there is a separate log house which is called the "Byeoldangchae" (another annex). In front of the 'Anchae', you can see some Korean traditional jars and fire logs stacked next to the building. The spacious front yard is often used for entertaining; they would have barbeques here.
For dinner, they would place a straw mat on the floor and have a picnic. Most of the Korean traditions are still alive in this guest house; they still use wooden spoons to wooden rice thrashers used by farmers from days gone by.

3. Smoking is not allowed in this house. If you wanna smoke you can smoke outside.
4. All equipments are free in "Taebaek Korean Traditional GuestHouse". (barbecue grill, television, refrigerator, gas stove, dishes, spoons and chopstics, rice-cook, utensils, cell phone recharger,internet access, parking lot, etc).
Please rearrange cleanly after using.
5. Internet access is only available in songwolloo.
6. Don’t make big noises. Don’t break folk materials and antiques.
7. We have no responsibility of your belongings.
